Small town, big town, and still happens

I was with my granddaughter and driving to town. I waved a few times at other people, and they also gave me a strange look. My granddaughter asked me, Do you know them? I said no. She said, Why wave to them? I said before that I lived in a small town, and when we passed each other, we waved because, in a small town, everyone knows each other.
