My Life Story(13)

My Life Story

In Iran, we show respect to the teacher by standing when the teacher walks into the room, and we sit when the teacher tells us to sit. I grew up like that.

In Canada in 1996, I remember doing the same thing on my first day of school, and the teacher looked at me and said: “Have a seat, please”. I saw other students still sitting and watching me. I sat, and I realized that my action was strange. The next day, I talked to the teacher before class and explained to her why I stood up. She said, ” I had a student before you from your country, and he did exactly the same; don’t worry, it’s ok”.

“Every culture brings us a new vision of our world, and the world will be boring without differences”.
