Nowruz, also called the Persian new year
Nowruz (New Day), is the Persian New Year and the traditional festival marking the beginning of spring. It’s celebrated not only in Iran, but in the likes of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and countries across Central Asia, as well as their diasporas around the globe.
The Persian New Year of 2021 will fall between March 20th and March 21 in different parts of the world.
The day is believed to promote peace, solidarity, reconciliation and neighborliness, and is designed to be filled with good food, new clothes and quality time with loved ones.
“New-day”, has been celebrated in Iran for over two thousand years by all the people regardless of ethnicity, religion, or language.
Navroz was officially registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009 and is celebrated on March 21, the day of the equinox.
More than 300 million people celebrate Nowruz every year.
